Mags: Celebrating Cookie magazine

While the food world is consoling itself with a big block of Belgian dark chocolate after Condé Nast announced it would be closing Gourmet (Bon Appétit survived the McKinsey & Company chopping block), yummy mummies will gather in coffee shops to collectively lament the closure of their beloved Cookie.

In tribute to the magazine, which launched in 2005, I give you this blog post extract from Yummy Mummy herself, and five of my favourite Cookie covers, including the gorgeous Liv...

"Seriously, if I had been born a magazine, I would be this magazine... Sure I like my Vogue, US Weekly, In Style, Glamour, and Sunday Times but I would trade them all (yes, I said all) in for just one monthly issue of Cookie. This magazine has everything that I love. Fashion, design (baby and adult), healthy recipes, celebrity moms, advice and generally all things fabulous in the baby world. When I read this magazine I have a smile on my face the entire time. It makes me so happy to be a mom, and it inspires me to always look to the sunny side of motherhood, especially on those rainy (aka cranky) days... A sleeping baby, a cup of tea and new issue of Cookie? Life couldn't get any better." (Taken from: "Cookie? They Made a Magazine Just For Me?")

Profits, schmofits... why do bad things have to happen to little magazines women love, like Cookie and Domino just because they're not perceived as economically viable? I mean, really, how about some community service, Conde Nast? Could Anna Wintour not sacrifice her daily blow-dries and Starbucks to pay someone's salary on Cookie? Where's the spirit of democracy?

Interested to know: which magazine would you be devastated to lose?

Yours truly,
Girl With a Satchel
