GWAS Short & Sweet

Greetings, Satchelings, and welcome to Short & Sweet, your visual segue into another week on the glossy beat via Girl With a Satchel...

The candy-coloured cover of November's Shop Til You Drop borrows a denim-clad Cameron Diaz from the July edition of U.S. Marie Claire, but I don't mind because a) it reminds me of a Rainbow Paddle Pop, and that's my favourite ice-cream and b) the last thrift purchase I made (at The Village Markets) was yet another denim jacket, and this somewhat validates my '90s fashion obsession (Shop also has an obsession with denim – the September '08 cover featured Jessica Alba wearing one, too!).

This issue features an 'Angst-Free Guide to Finding the Perfect Swimsuit' (my advice - guess your size and order online!), a beauty guide to help you 'Get a Better Body' and 'The Lazy Girl's Guide to a Flatter Tummy' – i.e. your standard pre-summer editorial fare peppered with pretty models in itty-bitty bikinis.

The Glossips

Predictably, Woman's Day and New Idea are all over the Greg Norman/Chris Evert split like flies on a discarded sausage roll. Woman's Day claims to have an exclusive interview with Evert but I can't locate any exclusive quotes*, though I did find lots of pointed comments from both their disgruntled ex-partners. The whole thing makes me feel ick. The mags are also competing for other local celeb exclusives, bringing us news of Sarah Murdoch's pregnancy and Kim Wilson's nuptials (New Idea), and Pauline Hanson and Bert Newton scoops at Woman's Day. Meanwhile, Famous, Grazia, NW and OK! are still obsessed with celebrity bodies – particularly the skinny ones.

*Update! Apparently, Woman's Day does have an exclusive Chris Evert quote, and it goes a little something like this: "Everything is pure speculation at this point. We are both good people, I respect and honour Greg and our relationship. That should speak volumes of our feelings towards one another." Ah, now we can all sleep better. The Day has also responded to last week's New Idea Ajay Rochester's bikini body exclusive (apparently that cover pic was submitted to New Idea pre-Photoshopped), revealing that Rochester will need surgery to correct her saggy skin (see the tummy-pulling photo proof inside!). Clearly all Rochester really needs is SHOP Til You Drop's 'Lazy Girl's Guide to a Flatter Tummy'.

The Breakfast Club

This morning Cesca is serving up artfully sliced banana on toast spread with peanut butter – a standard brekkie in the GWAS office but much prettier when captured by Cesca's camera.

Yours truly,
Girl With a Satchel
